This mighty wall ran across the whole width of Britain, from Wallsend (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) in the east to Bowness-on-Solway in the west.. The wall was originally 15feet high with 6 foot battlements on top of that. It was begun in about 120 A.D. on the orders of the Emperor Hadrian, and was manned until it was abandoned in 383.
What a gorgeous piece of scenery....captured fabulously!
Thanks so much for the history you include....makes me wonder just how much work, how many people it took to build this wall and how long it took to build it.
Wow, I think this is the best shot of the wall I've seen. You really found a great place to capture the sheer scale of the wall. I really love the sense of depth you get as the wall trails away into the distance. The hills almost look like they are sahara dunes that have started to grow grass.
Oh my goodness, I'm so glad you posted this up. I've never thought that part of the walls were still visible. I've always read about Hadrian's wall in almost all of my history classes, it's really exciting to actually see how it really looks.
Thank you very much for sharing.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
